She is no grim reaper
She is a kindly hospice nurse
Spreading a blanket of frost
Upon the inevitable

She is a waterfall of shadow
A dream of broken light

She walks into the wind
Her chameleon dress trailing across the sky

  1. This is a truly wonderful poem. Really superb.

  2. I agree with Viv that this is a beautiful poem. It makes me sad, tho, eventho I like autumn too

  3. Just read several of your poems – this is my favorite so far. Interesting writing style – honest, multi-leveled, with a sprinkle of humor here and there.

  4. Oh I love this! ๐Ÿ™‚ I have never read autumn described in any of these ways and I am keeping your images in mind from now on!!! Thank you!!!

  5. I let out a long sigh as I read this; so beautiful. I love autumn & feel the same about it as this poem expresses.

  6. yes shadows flow
    like waterfalls

and what broke the lights? just being curious… ๐Ÿ™‚

one of my friend dan said his favorite season is fall. on the first day of snow here i laughed at him and said, ‘your fav season has just passed!’ but he said, ‘no not until after dec 20th’. what an obstinate friend.

    • you know broken light well because you are an artist.
light rays that are turned or stopped or redirected by water ,leaves , bright surfaces etc… (at least that is what i mean by broken light)

i like that dan , he is a good fellow and i am sure he says that you are obstinate too ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. by the way the star-like leaves are cute!

    • they are the wand of the fall fairies that live in a hollow log deep within the wood.
no leaves can fall until they fly over the tree and wave it.
i was hoping for a comment on them ๐Ÿ™‚
