Crooked path

image

Along the crooked path
Briars and brambles wait
To pull and tug
Upon our clothes
To halt our perfect gait
To poke a hole
To make a tear
And maybe draw some blood

We will not be deterred
From our merry way
Or search for pleasant detours
To steal the time away
Our course it is well charted
Imprinted equestrally
And we cannot deny the beasts
The cliffs and meadows to see

They have grown to love the crooked path
In all its tangled glory
And so we let their dappled legs
Find their way once more
To peacefulness and valley views
And flower scented winds
Long before we turn our backs
We know we’ll come again
