the pace of things to come

He laid on the couch and told the man he wanted an operation
on his head

to remove the stress part of his brain and replace it with
an overhead projector fan

the kind that purrs along all day while hot bulbs burn to
death and children slobber

in their sleep

a pacemaker

for the psyche

we’ll see
