for Debbie

Of Birthdays?

Which came first, the clowns or the sprinkles?

Cast away cupcake,

Painted on smiles

Flying past towns and trees for miles.

A clown never sleeps,

A sprinkle tastes stale,

Plastic party favors

From a dime store sale.

Clowns hatch from sprinkles,

Sprinkles form from melted clowns.

Clowns live in dark caves with fires

On the edge of town.

Sprinkles hatch clowns

From under the snow.

Cast away cupcakes

Fuel the circus show.

They hatch white as snow,

Color comes with time.

They fly to a safe place

With marionettes and mimes.

They sit by the fire

While the stars twinkle.

Ask the age-old question,

“Who came first, us or sprinkles?”

  1. I am so delighted. Now you’ve made my day! 🙂 This is so much fun, so imaginative. And clown friendly informative! p.s. I’m glad that it’s not a sin to not like clowns. 🙂 Cracking up remembering the one that tried to give my oldest some candy. She was speechless, scared and couldn’t respond. Someone should tell these guys that not all kids love ’em. haha!
